Jennifer Garner, Scott Foley Separate - April 2003

"Alias" star Jennifer Garner and husband Scott Foley ("A.U.S.A." ), who were thought to be an ideal Hollywood couple, are separating.

The couple says in a statement released by publicist Nicole King that they "have mutually decided to separate." There's no mention of divorce, and there appear to be no hard feelings on either side.

Foley and Garner married in October 2000, two years after they met on the set of "Felicity," in which Foley starred as sensitive college student Noel Crane. She guest-starred as his high-school girlfriend Hannah in several episodes.

Six months after their wedding, Garner landed the lead role on "Alias" (which, like "Felicity," was created by J.J. Abrams). The demands of shooting the show made for "an interesting way to be newlywed," she told the Los Angeles Daily News earlier this year. "But so far, so good."

"Alias" made Garner a star and also helped her to big-screen success in "Daredevil." Foley's "A.U.S.A." meanwhile hasn't attracted near the buzz of his wife's series, although the audiences for the two shows are about the same size. The NBC sitcom ended its midseason run Tuesday (April 1).

Hollywood gossip had speculated that the demands of Garner's rising career had put a strain on the marriage, and that grew when Garner attended the Oscars, where she was a presenter, by herself.
